There are a lot of activities going on in Atlanta over Labor Day Weekend…while most people head up to the mountains and lakes to enjoy family time and celebrate a day to commemorate the contributions workers have made to our country, there are plenty of events to do right here in Atlanta (though some may not be entirely kid friendly).
We’re listing out all the events we can find (mostly kid-friendly) so that you have a full picture of Atlanta on Labor Day weekend!!!
DragonCon (Parade) – Downtown Atlanta – Sept 1 to Sept 4 http://www.dragoncon.org/ You may want to head down to Atlanta early on Saturday morning (hey, you’ll be up any way with toddlers, right?) to watch the Dragon Con Parade…if you have kids that love costumes and parades!
College Football @ Mercedez-Benz Stadium – Downtown Atlanta – Sept 2 & Sept 4. http://www.chick-fil-akickoffgame.com/ We don’t really recommend taking the kids along for the Alabama v Florida State (9.2) and the Georgia Tech v Tennessee (9.4) games, but if they do go…maybe bring along some protective earwear.
Black Gay Pride – Downtown Atlanta – Aug 30 to Sept 4 http://atlantaprideweekend.com/ There are events held throughout the weekend at various venues. Additionally, there is the PURE HEAT COMMUNITY FESTIVAL at Piedmont Park held 9.3 http://pureheatcommunityfestival.com/
AJC Decatur Book Festival – Decatur – Sept 1 to Sept 3 https://www.decaturbookfestival.com/ This event is filled with family fun activities and events. Great time to instill the love of books and learning in your kids. J
House in the Park Festival – Grant Park – Sept 3 http://www.houseinthepark.org/ House Music…it’s free to the public, but I wouldn’t exactly call this kid friendly. Of course, if you have a sophisticated kid that likes House Music…
Pig Out with Oak Steakhouse and Colletta - Alpharetta – Sept 3 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/3rd-annual-labor-day-pig-out-with-oak-steakhouse-colletta-tickets-36615243178?aff=es2 Lawn games, cotton candy, and all you can eat pork, brisket, chicken, etc. Fun for the whole family at Avalon!
Big Peach Sizzler 10k – Chamblee – Sept 4 http://www.milesforcf.org/sizzler.html This race is Stroller friendly…it’s always a good time to get out and be active with your kid in tow…fitness is fun kids!
Stone Mountain Labor Day Weekend – Stone Mountain – Sept 2 – 4 http://www.stonemountainpark.com/Events/Labor-Day-Weekend It’s your typical day at Stone Mountain Park – make sure you hitch a ride on the cable car or hike to the top of the mountain for incredible views of Atlanta, then go to Stone Mountain Village for refreshments and fun, end the night at the laser show where they will be presenting a special Labor Day light show.
See Awesome Art – Marietta – Sept 2 to Sept 4 http://artparkmarietta.com/ There will be a children’s area that will include a space for your kids to get creative in chalk art; along with fun vendors and arts for you to look at.
19th Annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival @ Callaway Gardens – Outside of Atlanta – Sept 1 to Sept 3 http://www.callawaygardens.com/events/calendar/sky-high-hot-air-balloon-festival-labor-day-weekend While this festival is outside of Atlanta, we definitely recommend this one for the kiddos. There are tons of Hot Air Balloons and you will be at Callaway Gardens…a fun place for kids: trails, “beach”, Butterfly Center, water park, etc.
