Memorial Day Weekend is full of cook-outs, family, and fellowship. However, Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country's freedom while serving in our armed forces.
The City of Atlanta and surrounding suburbs host their own Memorial Day Programs. We've compiled a list of those program. As you enjoy company, friendship, and fellowship this weekend, take some time to remember why we observe this holiday and the people that this holiday honors.
Things to do in Atlanta: Memorial Day Programs

Atlanta, GA: The Shepherd’s Men are running in Atlanta as part of the SHARE Military Iniative (born from the Shepherd’s Center here in Atlanta). The Shepherd’s Men are veterans of the United States Military. These veterans run a 684 mile journey between the Shepherd’s Center and the US Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. All 14 men wear 22lb vests on their run and they rotate two 71lb packs to honor their fallen veterans. Roswell, GA: This program focuses on honoring veterans and their sacrifices they made in protecting our freedom. The ceremony consists of a Presentation of Colors, Reflections from Veterans, 21-Gun Salute, and other poignant acts of honoring. Dacula, GA: This Memorial Day celebration begins with a race and parade. The parade features Veterans, Veterans Organizations, Active and Reserve service men and women, Active and restored military vehicles, marching bands, Scouts, churches, community groups, floats, local businesses, antique cars, trucks, tractors, and more. Parade begins at 10AM Monday May 29th.
